Dorit Kemsley explains why she wants to talk more openly about perimenopause and support other women.
Dorit Kemsley, the dynamic star of 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills', is joining us at The Better Menopause in an exciting new role as Partner and Vice President of our US Advisory Board.
This announcement marks a significant step, as Dorit opens up about her own journey of healing, empowerment, and self-discovery. In a courageous reveal, she shares her experience with trauma-induced perimenopause following a distressing home invasion—an experience that has fueled her commitment to supporting women on their menopause journey.
A Personal Journey of Trauma and Early Perimenopause
Dorit’s story is one of overcoming unimaginable adversity when three years ago, her life changed forever when she experienced a terrifying home invasion. Reflecting on the trauma, Dorit said:
"I went through a really dark time in my life. Three armed men entered my home while I was alone with my children, with a gun to my head. It was truly horrifying, the stuff of your worst nightmares. I feel truly blessed to be here at all."
This traumatic event left her with severe PTSD, a condition she struggled with for over two years. But it wasn’t just her mental health that was affected—Dorit soon noticed that her body was changing in unexpected ways. As she navigated the aftermath of the trauma, she began to experience the physical and emotional symptoms of early perimenopause.
"I noticed my body starting to change in small ways, but I didn’t connect it to menopause at first. Bloating, insomnia, anxiety, brain fog, mood swings—I thought it was just the trauma. But then something happened that really made me stop. I had gone to the supermarket with the kids, and I wet myself in the middle of the aisle. That’s when I realized I needed help."
A Turning Point: Seeking Help and Finding The Better Menopause
This turning point led Dorit to seek out expert guidance from Dr. Jennifer Berman, a renowned specialist in women’s health. Dr. Berman confirmed that Dorit’s early perimenopause was likely triggered by the trauma she had endured. From that moment on, Dorit made it her mission to heal—emotionally, physically, and mentally, she explained:
"I was ready to heal. I was fed up with feeling down and dealing with all these symptoms. I wanted to feel strong again. After meeting Dr. Berman, I felt lighter, more energized. For the first time, I didn’t feel like a stranger in my own body."
It was during this pivotal time that Dorit was introduced to Debbie Wosskow OBE, and the team at The Better Menopause.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The brand’s mission to empower midlife women through science-backed, all-natural solutions deeply resonated with Dorit, and her personal experience with our products solidified the connection.
"I’ve been using Better Gut and Better Night supplements for months now, and they’ve transformed my wellbeing. The connection between the gut and your hormones is something I wasn’t aware of before, but it makes total sense. When your gut is healthy, your hormones are more balanced and I'm finally feeling like myself again."
Empowering Women Through The Better Menopause
Now, as our Partner and VP of the US Advisory Board, Dorit is committed to using her voice and platform to support other women on their menopause journeys. She believes it’s time to break down the stigma surrounding menopause and open up conversations that help women feel informed and empowered.
"There are 1.3 billion women worldwide going through menopause, but so many still don’t know enough about its symptoms or how to manage them. I want to help women understand that they don’t have to struggle alone. There is support out there, and we need to talk about it openly." -Dorit Kemsley.
At The Better Menopause, we are passionate about providing women with science-backed supplements designed specifically for midlife women.
